The challanges for public transport in rural regions strongly differ from those for transport systems in urban areas. The low population density, the therefore low number of passengers and long distances demand special adjustments in operation and financing. Furthermore the use of technology can ease and improve public transport in such environments. Equally, ever-changing legal frameworks require continuous acquisition of knowledge.
These general conditions formed the base for the establishment of the Symposium RegioMove in 1999, which ever since had been held in a 2-year-cycle in different regions all around Styria, Austria.
